File Under "A" for "Agenda"

Worrying about the future, planning for the present. Maybe I can forget one while living in the other.
Things feel hectic in a suspended kind of way for me, as though everything in my life is sort of floating in a chamber and at any time, the gravity will come back on and everything, including me, will fall. I just don’t know when the gravity switch will be thrown, and the suspense is killing me. I don’t do well with worry, and I’m honestly trying to do better. However, sometimes the old habits do in fact die hard, and at those times I get myself in a funk of hesitation and fitful starts. Productivity is elusive, and focus is saved for the mundane, which my mind has convinced me is utterly, deathly important. Worrying about things before they happen isn’t healthy, nor does it really do anything for me. I know these things. Yet, training yourself to do things you’re not used to doing is difficult. I’m trying.
The SO’s band has left today for a couple shows out east. They will be coming back Sunday. I’ve been so caught up in the minutia that I probably haven’t mentioned the highlights of my agenda (such as they are). So, in an effort to remain hopeful and optimistic and grateful for opportunities…
- Thursday, March 27 – Actual highlights! I haven’t had these done since, oh, May of 2007. My stylist has some new ideas for a bolder color group, so I’m looking forward to what happens tomorrow. She’s so good with color, she could probably totally surprise me and I’d still be pleased with it.
- Friday, March 28 – Basement Bhangra comes to Madison’s Majestic Theatre. Hopefully, if the weather isn’t ass and my car decides not to blow up, I, too, will be coming to the Majestic. Our friend Eric gave us the heads-up on this a while ago. Downside (for me): DJ Rekha’s set doesn’t start until 11pm. So, I gotta plan my caffeine intake or find a gas station on the way out of town so I make it back to Milwaukee. For me, this will be as much about enjoying a live DJ set as it will be practicing club photography, which is something I’d like to start doing.
- Saturday/Sunday, March 29/30 – Cleaning the house, fussing my plants, and packing for…
- Monday, March 31 – Flight out to San Francisco! The SO won’t have much time between getting back Sunday night and leaving the house by noon for the airport, so I will be doing what I can on the weekend to prep for both of us. We decided that since Stromkern is playing the DNA Lounge on Thursday, we’d fly out a few days before to see the city (he’s been there before, but I never have). Hopefully I’ll know what I’m doing with a camera by the time the gig rolls around.
- Friday, April 4 – The SO continues south to LA for more gigs. I, however, will be flying north to Seattle to spend over a week (!) with my friends Amy & John and the SO’s two sisters. All of my hosts have been very gracious in helping plan some fun outings (not to mention gracious in putting up with me for that long), some of which include an overnight stay in Olympic National Park, and maybe also a weekend in Portland. It’s the time in the Park that inspired me to hit the gym these last two months, and I’m so glad I did; not only do I feel stronger, but I lost some weight in the process.
- Monday, April 14 – I finally fly back to Wisconsin, in time to file my taxes.
It is my hope that at least for two weeks I can put aside the fears, the silly thoughts, the second-guesses, the hesitations, and the hectic feelings. I probably won’t have this chance to travel so long again and I want to make the most of it.
