TDC Trip: Sunday

Leaving DC to play in Pittsburgh.

When The Meeting Place closed, we loaded out and followed Dave and Domi home to their house in Burke, VA. We slept for a scant 4 or 5 hours before breakfast call, when Dave, Domi, Dan, and I went to a diner. Dan was nice enough to order breakfasts to go for Dave and Luke, who elected not to come (Luke went for a walk). We came back to the house, packed up our bags, and headed back the way we came to Pittsburgh for our show tonight. For this one, Domi was also coming. She does female vocals on some songs, and was nice enough to follow us the four hours to Pittsburgh for our other show for the weekend. Domi and Luke travelled together, while Dan, Dave, and I took the van. I had to take the bench seat and rest for most of the way, since at some point on Saturday, my body decided that it was going to initiate the menstruation procedure ten freaking days early. Talk about bad timing. Stress will do that.

We found our club, Pegasis, in Pittsburgh and loaded in. We were the first of four bands to show up, so we set up first. It’s a really cool basement set up, with an all-ages bar and 21-and-up bar, a multi-tiered stage/dance floor, and a kitchen. After Thou Shalt Not had sound checked, we did our sound and then sent Luke and Domi to find sandwiches. Luckily, Luke found a mom-and-pop shop that made some awesome roast beef and turkey deli sammies. However, it wasn’t until later that we found out that someone in the club brought in some food for us, so later we also had fresh veggies with hummus, pesto pasta, and cupcakes with frosting. Yum! While we were in the kitchen, Dan and I geeked out with Alex from Thou Shalt Not, as we are all Music Comp majors (and Alex actually has an associate professorship down in Florida to teach theory).

One of the local openers was a band called Wreckreation. The music was okay, but the female singer was dynamite. So powerful and expressive. I ended up talking with her after the night was over, and found out she indeed had training and was trying to get back into things. I hope they go somewhere.

I didn’t have all the gastrointestinal problems that I had the previous night, and for everyone concerned it was a much better show, even if the crowd was a little more restrained. But we also did good at the merch booth, so it’s hard to tell. Thou Shalt Not ended up having a great show.
