TDC Trip: Friday

Leaving Milwaukee, headed for Toledo.

We left on time with no problems. We realized we didn’t have a lock for the trailer (three Masterlocks in the house and not one could we remember the combination for), but figured on picking one up at the first rest stop along the Indiana turnpike (which we did).

Traveling with the rest of the guys is an interesting experience. I’m used to Dan, but the others I had to take some time to read. Dave is pretty easy to get along with and is scary observant, and will whip out some zingers if you want to joke around with him. Luke is also pretty easy to get along with, but he and I differ on what the goal of the trip is. I think where I have the goal to play a great show, his is probably to have the best possible time on the way to playing a great show. And “having a great time” involves substances and random acts of… well, whatever it is that inebriated people do. He wasn’t smashed, but clearly, he wasn’t sober. He did sleep most of the way tonight. Dave slept a little bit, and had to deal with Luke’s Thai food, both pre- and post-production.

Dave has an amazing capacity for consuming food, himself.

Dan drove all night, and I sat shotgun, helping out with tolls and generally keeping the conversation going. Late into the night, as we were traveling through Ohio, we followed a storm system to the south that was just amazing to watch. All the lightning was contained inside the cloud system, and it reminded me of the special effects used in Close Encounters of the Third Kind.

Still driving into the morning…
