How Often Food Meets Music

Posted on Thu Jul 3, 10:13 PM in Food

Food, oddly enough, is not featured prominently in my listening library.

I was curious, so I decided to find out which songs on my iPod had either:

  • a food in the title
  • referenced consuming food in the title
  • a drink in the title
  • referenced drinking in the title

Here’s what I found:

  1. The Good, The Bad and The Chutney (Anandji Kalyanji)
  2. Fists of Curry (Anandji Kalyanji)
  3. Rhubarb (Aphex Twin)
  4. That’s Not Beef, That’s Pork (Atmosphere)
  5. Pour Me Another (Atmosphere)
  6. Drunk On Love (Basia)
  7. An Olive Tree (Basia)
  8. Sheep Go To Heaven (Cake)
  9. Cherry Twist (Crystal Method)
  10. Wonce Again Long Island (De La Soul)
  11. Long Island Degrees (De La Soul)
  12. Hungry Like The Wolf (Duran Duran)
  13. Black Cherry (Goldfrapp)
  14. Deep Honey (Goldfrapp)
  15. When I Was Drinking (Hem)
  16. Chips Ahoy (The Hold Steady)
  17. Citrus (The Hold Steady)
  18. Biscuit (Portishead)
  19. Tooty Frooty (Rattbelly)
  20. Buy Her Candy (Rattbelly)
  21. Super Bon Bon (Soul Coughing)
  22. Soft Serve (Soul Coughing)
  23. Chicken Shake (Stereo MC’s)
  24. Sugar On My Tongue (Talking Heads)
  25. Popsicle (Talking Heads)
  26. Long Island (that dog)
  27. Please Pass The Milk (TMBG)
  28. Ball & Biscuit (The White Stripes)

The following are “honorable mention” for being related to food:

  1. Digging In The Dirt (Peter Gabriel)
  2. Empty Garden (Elton John)
  3. Bartender (Regina Spektor)
  4. Sugar Free Jazz (Soul Coughing)
  5. Dinner Bell (TMBG)
  6. I am a Grocery Bag (TMBG)

Funny… I expected more, but really everything above isn’t even 3% of my entire iPod library (disclosure: I have an oooooold iPod which requires me to pick and choose my iPod library. I cannot put my entire music collection on it, so yes, I own quite a bit more than 1000 songs).
